Association of Public Service Alliance Retirees The Association of Public Service Alliance Retirees

Why ?

APSAR is an association whose objectives are to help and inform retired former PSAC members, and their spouses or partners about the provisions and the benefits tied to retirement. It also tends to group together all the PSAC members over 50 years old in order to make the greatest possible number of members aware of the retirement challenge.

In 2007, the Association significantly amended its Bylaws and put in place more concrete regulations so that Locals, Area Councils, Regional Women’s Committees, the seven (7) major geographic regions, all the PSAC Unions and all the other regional committees recognized in the PSAC structure might be included in the APSAR structure. The challenges of the pension reform in the years to come are too important not to become united in order to protect, defend and improve together the retirement provisions and take into account the interests of the survivors, because we paid for all those privileges.

These past few years, billions of dollars were not claimed by the survivors of former PSAC members because the government deliberately failed to inform them, on the pretence that the information is available in the Departments’ publications. It’s disgraceful, and we have regularly denounced this fraud in our interventions with government authorities. Our mandate is to intervene in all the injustices made to retirees and the elderly. We are constantly working towards advancing the discussions related to the strengthening of pension plans so that retirees and the elderly may live decently under acceptable and humane conditions.

The only way to demand the RESPECT due to retirees and the elderly is to unite and be as many as possible. It’s only by NUMBERS that we will be heard, so that our demands may be considered. APSAR has its place in a union continuity within PSAC. We must all of us take that into account.
