The SSO is a separate employer under the Public Service Labour Relations Act.
Regional Office Interviewers – The members of this unit of approximately 500 members work in Statistics Canada offices around the country collecting information for national surveys. They are responsible largely for telephone interviews which collect the raw data that is subsequently used to provide statistics on everything from literacy to consumer expenditures.
Field Survey Interviewers – The over 700 members in this unit work for Statistics Canada collecting information for national surveys. The data they collect is used to provide national statistics on a wide range of issues, such as the labour force, unemployment, and consumer expenditures. Field interviewers work directly with interview subjects, and work out of their own home. The unit achieved its first collective agreement in 2004.
