From the left to right, Lindie Carpenter, Ekati worker, Brad Brake, Vice-President of the Union of Northern Worker, PSAC National President Nycole Turmel and Ekati worker Robert Beaulieu were leading the demonstration in support of BHP Billiton workers. The 500 PSAC members demo heads for the Queens Quay.
The demonstrators much appreciated the short play performed by the members of the Toronto Partisan Players. Ekati mine worker Robert Beaulieu was very moving in his speech to the demonstrators. “In every struggle there is a light. In this case the light is the union.



May 1st

Toronto and York Region Labour Council President John Cartwright was a guest speaker, along with Toronto Mayor David Miller, at the first day of Convention. Betty Bannon (UTE), at the podium, and Jerome Turcq (REVP-Quebec), standing behind her, read the May Day statement.

April 30
NDP MP Olivia Chow focused on the threat to a national child care program in Canada. Bloc Quebecois MP Carole Lavallee shared her experience trying to push anti-scab legislation through Parliament.
Jackie Schmidt (USGE) and Yves Ducharme (Agriculture Union) read the Day of Mourning statement. Ottawa mayoralty candidate Alex Munter linked the viability of Canadian cities with the labour movement.
B.C. Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair discussed how the labour movement is needed for democracy. Canadian Labour Congress Secretary-Treasurer Hassan Yussuff moderated the forum.
