Stamp out privatization at Canada Post - Campaign update

More than 5,000 people have signed a petition calling on Canada Post to reverse its decision to contract out its call centres and the National Philatelic Centre in Antigonish, NS.
And PSAC and UPCE representatives have met with both government and opposition MPs in a bid to pressure the Crown corporation to reverse its decision for the sake of the postal service as well as the affected communities.
Some highlights:
- September 6th:
- Peter MacKay sends letter to Minister Responsible for Canada Post, Rob Merrifield expressing request for meeting
- September 21:
- Antigonish Town Council gives its full support to the campaign
- September:
- UPCE develops alternative to Canada Post's contracting out proposal under Annex M of the collective agreement.
- Sept 23:
- UPCE representatives meet with MP Paul Dewar
- September 30:
- UPCE makes formal presentation on its business case for keeping call centre and Philatelic Centre work in house.
Upcoming efforts:
- PSAC is preparing an ad campaign to run in newspapers in select cities.
- October 26-29: Booth at the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities Convention held in Sydney, NS
- Continue collecting petition signatures
- PSAC and UPCE will continue to work with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to fight job cuts and privatization of Canada Post, in particular the privatization of call centres across Canada and the National Philatelic Centre in Nova Scotia.
