Joint Career Transition Committee (JCTC)

As of March 31, 2006 , the Joint Career Transition Committee (JCTC) will cease its operations.

The Joint Career Transition Committees and their predecessor the Joint Adjustment Committees were effective in helping public service employees who faced adjustment and career transition. They also facilitated good will and trust between union and management.

The PSAC did everything that it could to persuade Treasury Board to continue to fund this important initiative. The Treasury Board consistently refused to renew funding after March 31, 2006. The PSAC believes that the JCTC is needed more than ever and that the employer's lack of support for this well proven initiative is a serious error in judgment.

The PSAC will endeavour to find other ways with and without the cooperation of the employer to maintain the capacity to respond to work force adjustment and career transition situations including support for proactive solutions like Career Pathways and the Career Opportunities System.

The Government of Canada and the Public Service Unions remain committed to discussing other possible joint endeavours.
