Resolution Adopted by the PSAC NBoD

CREATION OF THE STANDING ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE of the NBOD
WHEREAS issues relating to the protection of the environment have recently taken on increasing importance on the international, national, regional and local scenes; and
WHEREAS an AEC Environment portfolio was established by the National President in 2006, with the view to increasing the involvement with and engagement of the PSAC on environmental issues; and
WHEREAS reinstating a Standing Environment Committee of the NBoD would provide a focused forum for debating and discussing the priorities, positions, policies and actions of the PSAC as they relate to environmental issues:
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Standing Committee of the NBoD on Health, Safety and the Environment be separated into two separate standing committees: a Standing Health and Safety Committee, and a Standing Environment Committee; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the mandate of the Standing Environment Committee of the NBoD be the following:
- to advise the PSAC on environmental issues and to make recommendations to the PSAC on environmental issues as appropriate;
- to recommend priority issues relating to the environment that the PSAC should take on, and to establish Committee priorities accordingly;
- to recommend ways to educate and engage the PSAC membership on environmental issues;
- to recommend coalition partners who we can work with on environmental issues;
- to review and report on matters referred to it by the NBoD.
