PSAC National Executive Vice-President Patty Ducharme and PSAC members who work as federal compensation advisors were among the first to hear a House of Commons Committee unanimously recommend immediate action on pay for AS compensation advisors.
At a news conference today, the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates announced it was tabling a report in Parliament entitled "The Right Pay for Valuable Employees".
"We're very pleased to see the attention the Committee has given this issue and we're very encouraged by the recommendations," says Ducharme. "The Committee clearly listened to the PSAC members who testified before them."
The Committee's recommendations reinforce both the position taken by the Union at the AS Roundtable and the bargaining demand recently tabled with Treasury Board. The Union has proposed a Recruitment and Retention Allowance for Compensation and Benefits workers.
According to Ducharme, "the Committee's report reiterates what everyone, including Treasury Board, already knows. The government can't recruit or keep compensation advisors. In addition to proposing a recruitment and retention allowance, PSAC is also pushing for a classification-based resolution to this problem. Now, it's up to Treasury Board to act."
The Committee has asked the government to table a comprehensive response to their report within 120 days.
