Regional Offices Bargaining Team spends three days in bargaining with Stats Can

On Tuesday June 12th, Wednesday June 13th, and Thursday June 14th our Bargaining Team for the SSO Regional Office (RO) bargaining unit met with Stats Can representatives in Ottawa to continue negotiations for a new collective agreement. Over the course of the three days the parties focused primarily on our team’s proposals concerning seniority rights in the context of scheduling and in the context of job security. As was the case when we met in May, we reiterated that scheduling rights and increased job and income security are critical for us in this round of negotiations. We also spent time discussing our health and safety proposals – namely that, for safety reasons, employees not be required to provide their full names when calling respondents. Management asked that we withdraw our proposal on this matter. We indicated that we are holding to our position, citing a number of incident reports where respondents have been threatening and abusive towards union members.

Return to the Bargaining Table Next Month

We are scheduled to resume negotiations in Ottawa the 11th and 12th of July. In addition to continuing discussions on other items, we are planning on tabling our wage demands in our next session. We’ll be sure to update as things progress. If you have any questions contact a member of our bargaining team, your local union representative.
