Bargaining Dates Set for Next Month

The parties are scheduled to resume negotiations for both the Regional Office and Field Interviewer groups in early October

Throughout the spring and into July our Bargaining Teams for the Field Interviewer and Regional Office groups met with Stats Can management on numerous occasions in an effort to reach new collective agreements for both groups. In negotiations, our Bargaining Teams have made proposals modeled on what has already been agreed to by other federal employers - rights for employees in the context of work assignment, including the recognition of employee seniority; an obligation on the part of the employer to provide employees with items and equipment necessary to do their jobs; protections against harassment; wages that match what other federal employees are being paid for similar work. We have also proposed protections to ensure that we do not lose pensionable hours. We have discussed all of these proposals at length in negotiations, those concerning work assignment and pension accrual in particular.

Next month we are scheduled to meet again in negotiations. Our team will be meeting with management for the Regional Offices group the week of October 1st and for the Field Interviewer group the following week. Our hope is that Stats Can will come to the bargaining table prepared to finally resolve the issues that we've raised in bargaining, and to agree to parity with other unionized federal public servants.

We'll be sure to update as things progress. We have dates scheduled for the fall. If you have any questions, follow up with your Shop Steward or a member of our Bargaining Team. Be sure to consult our website for current and previous updates at www.psac.com, and to access our proposals.
